In his re-run speech last week Geo Bush urged young Americans to join the army. Bush's daughters are both college graduates and they would might make excellent officer material. Bush would set a good example for all Bushies if he urged his daughters to volunteer. Bush said there is "no higher calling." I agree, so what would Jenna and Barbara waiting for?

As the Pentagon's on-going Quadrennial review reveals, the U.S. military is stretched thin thanks to the invasion and occupation of Iraq. Indeed, the Pentagon is considering officially accepting what informed observers have long known and that is that Iraq has so sapped U.S. military strength that is cannot succeed in the goal of fighting two wars simultaneously. The war is costing $5 billion a month (and that is the official, conservative estimate), but more important it is causing the Army to unravel.
