One interrogator at Gitmo told his prisoner that he had more respect for a dog than he did for him. So does this sort of dehumanizing treatment work?

The operative assumption that lies behind the profoundly counterproductive episodes at Abu Ghraib, Gitmo and Bagram is that you should disorient, dehumanize and disrespect the your captives. We already know that this has led to anger and enmity in much of the world, but does it produce results? A veteran FBI interrogator emphatically says "no".
