The stunning irony is that although the US invasion puts a power military force on Iran's doorstep, Iran's influence in Iraq has arguably grown as a result of the fall of the Ba'thist regime and emerging preeminence of Iraq's Shi'i Muslim community, much of which has close ties to Iran.
