U.K. Memo Cites Plans For Troop Reduction

U.K. Memo Cites Plans For Troop Reduction
Discussions about troop reductions are of course going on and it would be absurd if they were not. The basic problem is that the Army is structurally broken. As I note here from time to time, there is no way that the current deployments may be sustained. This is as important a limitation on the U.S. continuing its role in Iraq as an factor indigenous to Iraq.
The following New York Times article deals with the reducing reserve force, which is contributing to the problem. In a nutshell the reserve is facing a series of related problems:
1. Declining recruitment of high quality reservists.
2. Exit of qualified leaders.
3. Executive order limitations (two years max) for any given six year period.

More of these sorts of stories will be appearing even though the Bushies and the Pentagon are putting to try on their happy faces.
