Rallying the Troops and Avoiding Reality
Colbert I. King suggests that Bush's disconnected rhetoric may simply a rhetorical strategy to buy time for a U.S. exit. As he notes, there is ample evidence that the president may sound divorced from reality but U.S. officials see what many scholars have long known, namely that administration fantasies about Iraq becoming a democratic, secular beacon for the Arab world have no connection to the Iraq that is emerging from U.S. occupation.
