Does Dennis Ross really give good advice?

Notwithstanding the dreadful record of the Clinton administration in seeking peace in the Israel-Palestine conflict, Dennis Ross is often offered to the informed public as an diplomatic authority. How sound is his advice? Should the U.S. insist on Hamas repudiating its ideology, or should it be satisfied with incremental changes that suggest a trajectory of pragmatism, accommodation and non-violence?
