U.S. warns Israel not to harm Abbas or Palestinian civilians - Haaretz - Israel News

If this report is correct, the U.S. has given Israel a green light to do what it wishes against Hamas political leaders. Israel's previous attempts to weaken opponents by assassinating leaders have usually failed. One recalls the assassination of 'Abbas al-Musawi in Lebanon, which gave rise to Hasan Nasrallah, arguable Israel's most important foe in the Arab world. The idea that brute force will humble and tame opponents is a symptom of a pathology not a strategy.
