As Mideast Smoke Clears, Political Fates May Shift

Many beltway-bound policy experts, and others around the U.S., were quick to support Israel's war for hegemony in Lebanon. It would be interesting to see a requiem on their assessments, whether right on track or way off the mark. Please send me your favorite quote by a credentialed academic, policymaker, politician or intellectual and I will post the ten best. As always, no favoritism for left, center or right.

In the spirit of full disclosure every substantial word that your host said or wrote on the war is available here.

My nominee is the U.S. Secretary of State who famously opined in Beirut:

"What we're seeing here, in a sense, is the growing -- the birth pangs of a new Middle East. And whatever we do, we have to be certain that we are pushing forward to the new Middle East, not going back to the old one. "
