There is nothing either in the leak NIE or the new Woodward book that surprises anyone who has been paying attention to the US entanglement in Iraq. The importance of the NIE, and its conclusion that the Iraq war was increasing the supply of terrorists, was that it was the consenus of the US intelligence community. The importance of the Woodward, and its revelation of a president and close advisors blinded by wishful thinking or ideology, is that it comes in a book that will be plastered across America, not just in the neighborhood bookstore but in Walmart.
