1. The U.S. cannot just walk away from Iraq, but needs to shape the circumstances of withdrawal so that it is a result of a successful demonstration of American reliabilty and diplomatic success.
2. In particular, the U.S. must reengage diplomatically to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict using the framework of the "roadmap".
3. While Iran should not be made integral to U.S. strategy but Syria is different and may be successfully engaged, even pried a bit from Iran's clutch if there is progress on the Arab-Israeli front.
Is Bush listening? Should he?
