Excerpts from Ken Silverstein's excellent article on Islamist parties in politics

The author provides a nice glimpse of the Ikhwan in Egypt and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Of particular note is his report of the difficulties he experienced at the Los Angeles Times while he was a staff reporter there when he submitted an article on Hezbollah.

Parties of God (Harpers.org): "To write with any nuance about Islamists for an American audience is to invite controversy. I experienced this firsthand a year ago when, as a staff reporter for the Los Angeles Times, I visited Lebanon for a story that discussed Hezbollah’s evolution from its origins during the country’s civil war and the basis for its popularity."
