Update: I am in Qatar right now, but Egypt friends report seeing Mubarak at the Ahly-Barcelona football match tonight. So, this seems to be only a rumor--sparked by the president being out of sight--making the rounds in Cairo.

There was a rumor making the rounds in Cairo on April 24 that Mubarak died.
At this stage, all the levers for lifting his son to power are not in place, and Jamal 's rise to power is not assured. As a prominent Egyptian thinker told me in fall, if the transfer of power is not completed by the time the president dies, then it is wide open game.
