False Prophets

Genieve Abdo is the bright author of three good books, including her No God but God, a fine account of contemporary Egypt. She combines a fine journalist's nose for topicality with a fine analytical mind. In the following pungently argued essay she comments on the limp attempts to engage with the "real" Islam. As she notes, the fault with many efforts at dialogue is that they exclude some of the most dynamic and politically important players, namely the Islamists.
