Excursions on the Middle East, politics, the Levant, Islam in politics, civil society, and courage in the face of unbridled, otherwise unchecked power.
The Friends of the IDF is a registered 501 (c)3 charity, which means that donations to the charity are used to subsidize a foreign army. This is a very strange use for U.S. tax dollars.

As I understand from their website and other things I have heard about them, it is not to the army, but for the caring for the army's soldiers, for the people themselves, that the donations go to. That I think is a worthy cause, they all have to do army service, and they're only 18, 20, etc... years old. Check out their website, decide for yourself. www.fidf.org
