"The United Nations called on the Lebanese resistance group Hizbullah to merge with the country's regular army now that it is poised to be part of government. UN Special Envoy to Lebanon Terje Roed-Larsen made the comments after briefing European Union foreign ministers in Brussels on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1559.
"Larsen said: "They now have a significant bloc of parliamentarians and most likely, Hizbullah will also have ministers in the new Lebanese government. Remaining as a militia when they are a party in government might look a bit odd."
"He added that what he called "an internal dialogue in Lebanon" would lead to "the leadership of Hizbullah, drawing the conclusion that it's high time this militia is molded into the Lebanese Army and thereby into the government apparatus."
"But Hizbullah dismissed Larsen's comments as "another Western ploy to disarm us.""
