The New York Review of Books: The Memo, the Press, and the War: An Exchange

The New York Review of Books: The Memo, the Press, and the War: An Exchange
This is a continuation of the discussion about the Downing Street Memo. Mark Danner has played a leading role in emphasizing both the authenticity and the significance of the Memo, which reveals the informed conclusion of MI-6 that the Bushies were "fixing" intelligence to justify a war to topple the regime of Saddam Hussein. Micheal Kinsley argues to minimize the Memo's significance, claiming that the document does no more than restate conventional wisdom at the time. Danner, rightly in my view, underlines that that conclusion is symptomatic of the general failure of the U.S. press to challenge the Bush adminstration.
