Hamas Launches Media War for Gaza Control

While HAMAS's level of support is, in significant part, a reciprocal of public optimism about peace, even if everything comes up roses after Israel's evacuation of the settlements--which is very unlikely--HAMAS will retain a significant core support in Gaza especially. Mahmoud 'Abbas understands this all too well. While the PA will do its utmost to claim credit for the "liberation" of Gaza, the residents of the forlorn strip are likely to attribute significant credit to HAMAS. The occupation, colonization and economic exploitation of Gaza would no doubt be continuing if the Palestinians had not raised the price of occupation beyond a price that Israel was prepared to keeping paying.
Of course, they have brought horrible suffering on themselves in the process, and anyone who has ever been to Gaza will readily attest to miserable conditions there.
Hamas Launches Media War for Gaza Control: "The militant group Hamas came out of hiding Saturday to hold a mass news conference, distributing the phone numbers of 34 multilingual spokesmen in a fight for control of the Gaza Strip ahead of Israel's withdrawal next week."
