While a parody of local elections was conducted today, unrest in Egypt continues at level unprecedented since the food riots of 1977. As I have told some Egyptian friends, Mubarak nowadays reminds me of the old dictator in Gabriel Garcia Marquez's "Autumn of the Patriarch," which helpfully may be found in translation in Cairo bookstores.
