From the field

Excursions on the Middle East, politics, the Levant, Islam in politics, civil society, and courage in the face of unbridled, otherwise unchecked power.

Henry Siegman is an articulate advocate of a two-state solution for Israel/Palestine. His nuanced knowledge of the issues, including the finer points of U.S. diplomacy is unrivalled. In this piece he addresses Elliott Abrams dismissal of a joint letter addressed to the President that advocates a two-state solution, a more assertive U.S. role and the articulation by the U.S. of a framework for settlement.

Text of the January 24 letter referred to in the article, and a link to the Abrams article that Seigman eviscerates.  Readers will recall that Abrams served in the George W. Bush NSC as a senior Middle East staffer, and informally as self-appointed protector and advocate for Israel.
