Meanwhile, another wave of labor strikes in underway in Egypt. Since 2007, Egyptian workers and members of the professions (including the Lawyers' Syndicate) have often launched strikes to protest government administrative and economic decisions, as well as to voice a variety of grievances. While Egypt has been somewhat insulated from the global recession, it is starting to bite in Egypt. Presently, strikes, demonstrations and sit-ins are underway in Cairo, Giza, Suez, Ismailiya, Helwan and other sites.
