Can the Iranian regime survive without a U.S. enemy?

Certainly among reformist oriented Iranians, the normalization of relations with U.S. is accepted as a matter of course. The core players in the regime are another matter. As the Obama adminstration develops its orientation to Iran, it is very likely that the issue of relations with the U.S. will frame the upcoming presidential campaign (elections are due in June). Former President M. Khatami is being urged to run again by Hashemi Rafsanjani, among others.
